7 Biggest Mistakes with Paper & Information
Hansel and Gretel knew a thing or two about leaving trails. Leaving a paper trail everywhere you go is as dangerous as eating the gingerbread off of a witch’s house. Paper can be bulky, time consuming, and intimidating. But, just like a well fired oven, it is also an essential element in most homes. Watch this video, follow these tips, and live happily ever after.

Is Clutter & Chaos Part of Your Masterpiece?
One of my favorite quotes is:
"Make each day your masterpiece." (John Wooden)
I have this quote printed out on a label and stuck to the top edge of my laptop screen. It keeps me on track throughout the day and inspires me. When I am getting distracted, I ask myself if this activity or this thinking is part of creating my masterpiece. When the answer is no, I adjust and do better.
What does a masterpiece day look like for you? Mine includes good sleep, getting up relatively early, fresh food, exercise, time with family and friends, focusing on my top priorities, writing, journaling, Tweeting, reading, and laughing. (Also Dagoba Xocolatl dark chocolate with chilies and cocoa nibs.) It does NOT include wasted time or sweating the small stuff.
But more than that– what does a masterpiece LIFE look like for you? Does your masterpiece include clutter, chaos, procrastination, indecision, and distraction? Are you waiting on other people to do things for you, to rescue you, to give you the answers? Are you grabbing the brush, putting your own hands into the clay, putting down the bold strokes that are required?
The most powerful thing about this quote is the idea that we CREATE our days and we CREATE our lives. We have choice in every moment–even if we don't always have full control of our circumstances, we choose how we react to them. So if clutter and chaos are part of your life and are standing in the way of creating your masterpiece, know that you have the power to paint with a different brush, carve off an unnecessary chunk of the clay, or even ball up the paper and start over.

Sneak Peek of This Week's Plan
Each week our paid Clutter Diet members receive our exclusive, full weekly "menu" plan of organizing projects. (Members click here to log in and get the plan) Here is a sneak peek at what we're working on this week:
One of our Side Dish projects for this week is to spend at least 15 minutes making plans for Thanksgiving and the December holiday season. It’s September, and that means many of us need to start planning for the holidays. We are now beginning the countdown to the December holiday season. I realize that not everyone celebrates Christmas, but I found that according to Gallup polls, 96% of Americans do! So I am going to assume that is close to true and feature a lot of Christmas preparation in the member plans for the next few months.
At this point, you’ll probably want to do the following: Discuss and decide who is going to be where at which holidays. Are you all going to Grandma’s house? Is everyone coming to your house? Decide for both Thanksgiving and December holidays, and even New Year’s Eve if you can. Make travel arrangements now, or at least start shopping for fares. You can get “fare alerts” from most major travel sites to tell you when there are sales to specified cities… however, if you are traveling on a heavy travel day like the day before Thanksgiving, you really should just book right away. Make a gift list for December holidays. We recommend totaling how many gifts you need to buy and dividing that by the number of weeks remaining until the holiday. That is how many gifts you need to buy each week to stay on track, keep to a budget, and feel ahead of the game.
Our members are also working on our Main Dish and other projects this week, and they get unlimited advice and support from our team of Certified Professional Organizers® in our member message board area! If you're not a member yet, you can join us to get the full Weekly Plan and check it out with our 7-Day Quickstart program!
