Communicate With Your Sales Associate: Buyers should agree upon a procedure with their sales associate before visiting open houses and whenever possible, their buyer’s agents should accompany them to the open house. If your buyer’s agent can’t attend, be sure to tell the open house agent that you already have representation. Since your real estate professional has access to numerous available homes – not just those with open houses – an open line of communication will enable your agent to understand which neighborhood, types of homes and even particular features are attractive to you.
Take Detailed Notes: You should take notes when attending open houses, especially when visiting multiple homes during the day. The notes, along with the marketing materials handed out at the open houses, will help you narrow down the list of homes that are of interest to you. Share your notes with your agent so they can better understand your home buying needs.
After the Open House: If you attend an open house and like the property, it is generally best to share that information with your sales associate. Your sales associate can then schedule a private showing and help you through the negotiation process.
